Demond Williams Jr. returns to run an offense that scored 34.1 points a game, but Jedd Fisch is rebuilding almost everything around him with only 37% of the production back, betting that a top-37 talent base can mask the turnover long enough to keep Washington in the Big Ten's upper tier.
Can Washington win with almost nobody else back on offense besides Demond Williams Jr.? The Huskies return just 16% of offensive production, meaning the receiving corps and line around him are essentially rebuilt from scratch. Williams Jr. has the arm and legs to mask that turnover for stretches, but a first-year supporting cast on offense is the more likely drag on a team whose defense, returning 58.9% of its production, should be the steadier half.
The margin between a good year and a flat one for Washington sits in three games: a trip to Oregon (13% win), a home date with Indiana (25%), and a visit to USC (27%). Everything else on the slate, including home tilts with Minnesota and Iowa and road trips to Purdue and Michigan State, is winnable, which is why the projection sits at 7-5 despite a manageable 27th-ranked schedule. Jedd Fisch's third year comes down to whether Washington can flip even one of those three near-impossible spots, because the rest of the board favors them.

Washington's league yardage margin against conference opponents implied a much stronger win rate than the 5-4 mark it actually produced, which points to Jedd Fisch's group being sturdier than the record suggests heading into year three. That reading comes with real caution flags, though: a defense giving up 16.7 yards per point allowed against a 14.6 league median, a turnover margin of plus-5 over 13 games, and only 16% returning production are all more likely to worsen than repeat. The #26 power ranking and 9-4 finish are the foundation, but 2026 is about whether Fisch can replace nearly this entire production base while the underlying numbers correct themselves.
Demond Williams Jr. is back after throwing for 3,065 yards with 25 touchdowns against just 8 interceptions, and that continuity is why Washington's offense should keep operating at the efficient level it did in 2025, when it ranked 6th nationally in success rate and 9th on third down. The concern is protection, not production: an offensive line that allowed 33 sacks (114th) put Williams under constant duress, and if that number doesn't drop, the explosiveness that already lagged at 77th will stay capped. This is a Big Ten contender built around a quarterback who has already proven he can operate the offense, not one searching for answers under center.
Demond Williams Jr. threw for 3065 yards and 25 touchdowns last season and heads into 2026 as the unquestioned starter, giving Washington the kind of continuity most Big Ten offenses envy. The efficiency numbers back him up: this offense ranked 6th nationally in success rate and 9th on third downs, proof Williams operates a system built to stay on schedule rather than manufacture explosive plays (a modest 77th in explosiveness). The bigger threat to that consistency is protection, not the quarterback battle behind him, with 33 sacks allowed ranking 114th nationally and putting real pressure on Williams to extend that touchdown-to-interception ratio behind a leaky line.
Jonah Coleman's 758 yards and 15 touchdowns walk out the door, and nobody left on campus sniffs that workload; Jordan Washington's 233 yards are the top returning mark at the position. That gap gets filled by an Oregon transfer, Jayden Limar, who ran for 262 yards and 3 touchdowns last season and steps in as the clear early-down answer alongside Washington. Four-star Valencia signee Brian Bonner Jr. adds a long-term piece, but with 33 sacks allowed up front and the ground game already sitting at 167 yards per game, this room's success rides on Limar hitting the ground running immediately.
Denzel Boston's 62 catches and 11 touchdowns walk out the door, leaving Dezmen Roebuck, who caught 42 passes for 560 yards and 7 scores, as the clear top target left standing. Washington didn't just hope the room refills itself, it went and got Christian Moss from Kennesaw State, who put up 44 catches for 682 yards, plus a four-star high school haul in Jordan Clay, Trez Davis and Mason James to restock the depth behind him. That's a lot of unproven volume around one proven piece, but with the offense already running a 49.4% success rate and a top-10 third down conversion mark, Roebuck and Moss should have the structure to produce quickly even as the young receivers catch up.
Decker DeGraaf is the whole story here, and he is back after a 32-catch, 360-yard season that made him the clear security blanket in an offense that ranked 6th nationally in success rate. Quentin Moore's 5 catches walk out the door, but that is a rounding error next to DeGraaf's workload, and Kade Eldridge, Charlie Crowell, Baron Naone and Austin Simmons all return with no real receiving résumé to speak of. Kekua Aumua arrives as a three-star project from Kahuku, but 2026 is DeGraaf's room to hold down while Washington's passing attack figures out its explosiveness problem elsewhere on the depth chart.
Thirty-three sacks allowed in 2025 is the number that follows this group into 2026, a real problem for a Jedd Fisch offense that otherwise ranked 6th nationally in success rate. Drew Azzopardi, Geirean Hatchett, Landen Hatchett and John Mills anchor a front that brings back the bulk of its bodies, and five-star tackle Kodi Greene arrives from Mater Dei as the kind of talent infusion meant to shore up the edges immediately. With 13 of this room's linemen back against just five departures, Washington is betting continuity fixes the pass protection rather than a scheme overhaul.
Washington's line held up against the run (12th in rushing yards allowed) but never got off the field on passing downs, and the pass rush was the problem, with a group that ranked 116th in tackles for loss returning only Jacob Lane (4 sacks, 8 TFL) as a proven disruptor. Zach Durfee's 4 sacks are gone, and the staff answered by leaning on Ball State transfer Darin Conley, who brings 24 tackles and 4 TFL of real production, plus a haul of blue-chip freshmen in Derek Colman-Brusa and JD Hill who arrive as unknowns. With so much of the interior and edge depth unproven beyond Lane and Isaiah Ward, 2026 is a bet that Conley's transfer résumé translates faster than the freshmen can, because the havoc numbers say this front still isn't winning enough one-on-ones.
Xe'ree Alexander is the one proven piece here, his 70 tackles and 5.5 TFL dwarfing every other returner at the position, and Washington needs him to be more disruptive after a defense that finished 116th in tackles for loss and 94th in havoc rate last season. Deven Bryant's 62 tackles walk out the door, putting real weight on Zaydrius Rainey-Sale and Jacob Manu to turn modest 2025 snaps into real production, while four-star Bethel signee Ramzak Fruean arrives as the class's headline addition even without a college snap yet. The run defense held up (12th in rushing yards allowed per game), but this group's lack of edge and TFL juice was the reason the pass defense sagged to 52nd, and that gap is the one to watch in 2026.
Alex McLaughlin's 94 tackles anchor a back end that stayed sound against the run (12th nationally) but gave up 211 passing yards a game, and the fix arrives via the portal and recruiting trail rather than from within. Ephesians Prysock and Makell Esteen are both gone from a secondary that already ranked 52nd against the pass, so Emmanuel Karnley steps in at corner off 26 tackles at Virginia while four-star signees Rahsjon Duncan, Gavin Day and Jeron Jones add length Washington didn't have. Rylon Dillard-Allen and Dylan Robinson give this group a stable core, but the pass defense numbers say the newcomers need to produce immediately, not develop on the side.
Grady Gross' departure (10 of 13 FGs, 89 points) leaves a real void, but Washington didn't leave it to chance: Tyler Robles arrives from Texas State having gone 21 of 23 with a 50-yard long and 116 points, and he projects as the clear answer at kicker over incumbent C.J. Wallace, who has no game statistics on file. Punter Luke Dunne returns after a 40.3-yard average on 33 punts, giving Fisch's specialists steadier footing than the kicking change alone would suggest.
Jonah Coleman (758 yards, 15 TD), Adam Mohammed and Denzel Boston are all gone, stripping Washington of the three names most responsible for its 2025 offense, and Jedd Fisch answered by raiding the portal rather than promoting from within. Oregon transfer Jayden Limar takes over the backfield after just 262 yards a year ago, and Kennesaw State's Christian Moss steps in at receiver off a 44-catch, 682-yard season, both a level down in prior production from what they're replacing. The stabilizer is Demond Williams Jr., who returns after throwing for 3,065 yards and 25 touchdowns, and with 23 players out the door, how fast Limar and Moss adjust to Big Ten speed will decide whether that passing game still travels.
Jonah Coleman's 758 yards and 15 scores walked out the door, and Washington answered with Oregon transfer Jayden Limar, who arrives having managed just 262 yards and 3 touchdowns last season. That gap is the swing factor for 2026, because Demond Williams Jr. threw 8 interceptions behind last year's ground attack and needs Limar to keep defenses honest rather than leaning on him to erase mistakes through the air.
Jedd Fisch's Huskies covered as home favorites at an 80% clip, and that gap between straight-up wins and against-the-spread results is the real story of Washington's 2025 market read heading into 2026. Vegas kept overcorrecting against the road version of this team, which covered just 40% away from Seattle and went 0-1 as a road underdog, while bettors who backed Washington off a loss cashed at 75%. Ranked opponents remain the exception that breaks the pattern, with a 1-2 mark against the spread there, so the smart lean stays simple: trust Fisch at home, doubt him anywhere else.
