Will Hall inherits a team that finished 18th in the final Coaches Poll but sits just 56th in our own rankings entering the year, and with only 32% of last season's production back, Houston transfer Zeon Chriss-Gremillion has to rebuild an offense on the fly rather than simply defend the 11-3 finish.
Can Will Hall win big in year one with an offense that returns only 17.3% of its production? The defense keeps closer to half its unit intact at 46.6%, which buys Hall time, but Zeon Chriss-Gremillion has to operate behind a rebuilt supporting cast with almost nobody who caught, carried, or blocked for last year's 11-3 team. Expect the early season to lean on that defensive carryover while the new pieces around Chriss-Gremillion sort themselves out on the fly.
Will Hall's first slate at the wheel is loaded with should-win games, at 80% or better in six of them, but three road-heavy stretches will tell the real story. Kansas State on the road (37%) is the toughest out, followed by Duke away (41%) and a trip to South Florida that projects near a coin flip (52%). Everything else, including home dates with Memphis and UTSA, sets up as the buffer that gets Tulane to a projected 8-4 with 95% bowl odds.
Every team in the FBS book. Each one has its own preview: projected finish, what the roster returns, and the games that decide the season.
Every Premium Issue is included with Major League, or you can buy one on its own. Same treatment as the book you just read: a page for every team, the projections behind it, and the games that decide the season.
Will Hall takes over a program whose 11-3 mark flatters what actually happened on the field. Tulane went 5-0 in one-score games and ran a plus turnover margin of +8 over 14 games last season, and its yardage margin against league opponents implied a far more modest win rate than the 7-1 conference record it produced. None of that repeats on command, so Hall's first year in charge is less about matching last year's American Athletic title run than about a roster that returns 32% of its production and now has to win games it previously stole.
Tulane's offense was efficient but not explosive last season, ranking 34th in success rate yet just 105th in explosiveness, and now Will Hall hands the keys to Zeon Chriss-Gremillion, a Houston transfer with no prior statistics on record. The line held up its end, allowing only 12 sacks, so the new quarterback inherits protection and a run game that hit 166 yards per game without needing to be a finished product on day one. The bigger swing factor is whether Chriss-Gremillion can turn those manufactured, on-schedule drives into more big plays, because the moving-the-chains formula is already in place.
Jake Retzlaff's 3,168 yards walk out the door, and Tulane hands the offense to Zeon Chriss-Gremillion, a Houston transfer stepping straight into the QB1 role under new coach Will Hall. That is a bet on an unproven arm behind a line that allowed just 12 sacks a year ago, with Kadin Semonza, Jay Beamon and the rest of the returning group as experience-free depth rather than real competition. The efficient run-pass mix that produced 6.14 yards per play returns largely intact, but the explosiveness numbers (105th nationally) were already thin, and asking a first-year transfer to create more juice downfield is the swing factor for 2026.
Jamauri McClure (540 yards, 2 TD) is the lone proven piece from a backfield that also lost Javin Gordon, Arnold Barnes III and Zuberi Mobley, and new coach Will Hall responded by hauling in four backs rather than banking on Maurice Turner or Gabe Mocek alone. Florida State transfer Jaylin Lucas arrives with 160 yards of his own production, and he projects as the early complement to McClure while Oklahoma State's DJ Dugar Jr. and Mississippi State's Johnnie Daniels sort out the rest of the room. With that much fresh legs and so little returning volume, this group's explosiveness (105th nationally) is the number to watch, since Hall needs Lucas or McClure to turn the offense's already strong per-play numbers into more big gains on the ground.
Tulane's top three producers by yardage, Shazz Preston, Bryce Bohanon and Omari Hayes, are all gone, wiping out most of the room's proven volume. Anthony Brown-Stephens (41-523-2) and Zycarl Lewis Jr. (24-330-2) are the only real returning production, and the portal answer is Destyn Hill, a four-star LSU transfer whose modest 22 yards last season understate his pedigree. With Gabe Daniels arriving from Syracuse and three unproven high school signees in the mix, Brown-Stephens becomes the security blanket while Hill's ceiling determines whether this passing game keeps pace with an offense that already ranked just 105th in explosiveness.
Tulane cleared out its entire tight end production, with Justyn Reid, Johnny Pascuzzi and Anthony Miller all gone after combining for 34 catches and 5 touchdowns, and none of the returning names (Gabe Lovorn, DJ Cicero, LeRon Husbands, Cameron Roberts, Ty Thompson) bring meaningful stats to replace it. The answer is Dawson Johnson, who arrives from Old Dominion with 10 catches for 99 yards and a score and projects as the clear starter, while three-star signees Colby Simpson and Vance Bolyard add depth for new coach Will Hall to develop. This is a bet on one transfer stabilizing a passing game that already ranked 50th in yards through the air, rather than a position group rebuilding from within.
Only 12 sacks allowed a year ago, the eighth-best mark nationally, and Will Hall now has to reconstruct the group that produced it with Jack Hollifield, Derrick Graham and Jordan Hall among five departed starters gone. John Bock II is the most experienced name still in the room, but with no depth chart to lean on, this is effectively a new line built around blue-chip signee Tylan George and fellow newcomers Aiden Martin, Andre Amos Jr., Nick Witherspoon and Deontavis Cooper. That much fresh blood up front makes the pass protection numbers from 2025 a poor guide for what Tulane's offense, which ranked 105th in explosiveness, can count on in 2026.
Tulane's 2025 line produced 36 sacks, but the production behind those numbers is walking out the door: Kameron Hamilton, Santana Hopper and Mo Westmoreland combined for the bulk of the sacks and TFLs and none of them are back. What returns is largely a tackle-total group, Gerrod Henderson chief among them with 18 stops but just 0.5 sacks, so new coach Will Hall is leaning on the portal to replace lost pass rush, headlined by Ed Smith IV, who posted 3 TFL at South Alabama, and Houston edge Reshad Sterling. With a passing defense that already ranked 126th in yards allowed per game, this retooled front needs to generate pressure fast or that number gets worse before it gets better.
Tulane's pass defense bled 262 yards a game and ranked 126th in that category, and the group tasked with fixing it just lost its top three edge producers in Sam Howard, Harvey Dyson and Jordan Norman, who combined for the bulk of the unit's sack production. Chris Rodgers, who racked up 80 tackles and 7 TFL, anchors what returns, with Dickson Agu and Makai Williams filling in behind him, but none of them approach the pass-rush punch that walked out the door. South Alabama transfer Dalton Hughes arrives with modest returning production of his own, 40 tackles and 1 TFL, and figures to compete for snaps immediately rather than be an instant fix for a defense that gave up plays on schedule at a 111th-ranked rate.
The pass defense gave up 262 yards per game through the air, 126th nationally, and that gap looks worse now that 8 defensive backs are gone from a group that helped win the American Athletic title. Jack Tchienchou (80 tackles) and Kevin Adams III (44 tackles) anchor the safety spots, but the corner room leans heavily on transfers Justin Agu (Louisville) and Kajuan Banks (South Florida) to replace what Javion White and Jahiem Johnson took with them. Will Hall inherits a front that racked up 36 sacks, so the pressure is already there; whether Agu and Banks hold up in coverage decides if that pass defense number actually moves in 2026.
Patrick Durkin's departure leaves a real void, 24 of 27 kicks and 108 points that nobody currently on the roster has proven they can replace. Cooper Helmke and Zach Marini return without a single college attempt between them, and Jackson Courville arrives from Ohio State having gone 0 of 0 on field goals there, so this competition is starting from scratch rather than handing anyone the job. Punting is shakier still: William Hudlow has exactly one collegiate punt on file and Aidan Parker has none, while Alec Clark's 46.5-yard average walks out the door, putting real weight on incoming Brooks Moore to push for reps immediately under new coach Will Hall.
Tulane's 11-3 run walked out the door with Jake Retzlaff, Shazz Preston, Javin Gordon and Omari Hayes, four of the top skill-position numbers on last year's team gone in one offseason. Jaylin Lucas arrives from Florida State to help fill the backfield hole, though his 160 rushing yards there were modest, and Johnnie Daniels comes in from Mississippi State as another low-mileage complement rather than a proven feature back. With 27 players out against 20 in and a class ranked 64th, Will Hall is patching most of his offensive skill group with mid-tier transfers rather than a single headline addition.
Jake Retzlaff's 3,168 yards walk out the door, and Tulane hands the keys to Zeon Chriss-Gremillion, a Houston transfer with no prior stat line to lean on. He inherits a real supporting cast in Anthony Brown-Stephens and LSU transfer Destyn Hill outside, plus Jamauri McClure in the backfield, so the burden is less about carrying the offense alone and more about not wasting a group built to make him look good. Given the season came off an 11-3 run under new coach Will Hall, how fast Chriss-Gremillion plays up to that talent around him decides whether 2026 tracks with last year or slides back.
Tulane went 11-3 straight up but 6-7-1 against the number, a split that tells the real story: this team was consistently better than the market gave it credit for early, then bettors overcorrected and it started winning ugly. The home split says everything, 7-0 outright but just 3-3-1 against the spread, meaning Tulane covered its own hype at Yulman Stadium roughly half the time despite never losing there. As a home favorite Tulane covered only 40% of the time, the clearest sign the number had caught up to Will Hall's group by midseason, and that gap between record and spread performance is the line to watch as expectations rise again in 2026.
