Clemson projects as the top pursuer at No. 19, but SMU (No. 24) and Louisville (No. 27) land within shouting distance, and Florida State, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Pittsburgh all cluster between No. 28 and No. 36 with one loss separating most of them on paper. That bunching makes the league feel deep rather than truly wide open, since the projections still point to the same two programs meeting for the title, Miami against Clemson. Anything short of that pairing would mean one of the mid-pack contenders broke through a group that otherwise looks separated by inches, not miles.
