Georgia sits with the No. 1 accumulated roster talent in the country and a defense that allowed just 17.6 points per game, so with Gunner Stockton back at quarterback and 69% of production returning, anything short of a serious playoff run reads as underachievement rather than growth.
Can Gunner Stockton carry Georgia's offense as the full-time starter for all 2026? He's the projected QB1 heading into the year, and with 72.2% of offensive production back around him, the pieces are in place for him to settle in and produce without needing to be the whole show.
Kirby Smart's toughest ask sits in the middle of the schedule: the trip to Alabama is a near coin flip, sandwiched around a road test at Ole Miss and a home date with Oklahoma that projects as Georgia's closest home game. Everything else on the slate, from Auburn to Florida at a neutral site to South Carolina on the road, projects as a favorable if not comfortable outing. A 17th-ranked schedule and a 10-2 projection say this team should win the games it is supposed to win, but the Alabama trip is the one that decides whether 2026 reads as a step forward or a near miss.

Kirby Smart heads into year 11 off a 12-2 season that included a 7-1 mark in league play, the kind of results that keep a program humming rather than searching for answers. A power rating of No. 5 backs up what the record shows, a roster and staff built for another run at the top of the SEC. The stability up top means 2026 is about continuing a standard, not establishing one.
Gunner Stockton returns after throwing for 2,894 yards and 24 touchdowns against just 5 interceptions, and Georgia's offense is built to protect that efficiency rather than chase big plays, ranking 14th nationally in success rate and 7th in points per scoring opportunity. The catch is explosiveness sits at 129th, so touchdowns still come from stacking successful plays and finishing drives rather than a home-run element. The defense remains the more dangerous unit at 10th in points allowed per game and 4th against the run, which means Stockton does not need to force anything he did not already show he can do in 2025.
Gunner Stockton threw for 2894 yards with 24 touchdowns against just 5 picks last season, and he heads into 2026 with the job fully his, no camp battle required. The offense around him was efficient rather than explosive, ranking 14th nationally in success rate but 129th in explosiveness, so the ceiling question is whether Stockton and this staff can manufacture more chunk plays rather than just moving the chains. Oregon transfer Bryson Beaver gives Georgia insurance behind him, but with Stockton entrenched and an offense that finished 7th in points per scoring opportunity, this is about sharpening an efficient attack, not replacing anyone.
Nate Frazier (947 yards, 6 TD) and Chauncey Bowens (526 yards, 6 TD) already form as productive a duo as Georgia has had in years, and Kirby Smart added Kentucky transfer Dante Dowdell (560 yards, 3 TD) rather than lean on an unproven room behind them. Highly touted signee Jae Lamar arrives from Colquitt County as a top-rated recruit in the class, giving the Bulldogs a fourth ballcarrier with real pedigree even before he's played a snap. With Josh McCray and Cash Jones both gone, the carries and receiving work out of the backfield get redistributed among Frazier, Bowens and Dowdell, and that trio should keep Georgia's ground game humming behind an offense that already ranked 35th in rushing yards per game.
Georgia rebuilds its receiving corps almost entirely through the portal and high school ranks, since Dillon Bell, Colbie Young and Noah Thomas all depart with nothing close to matched on the returning side. London Humphreys, who caught 18 passes for 276 yards and 3 touchdowns, is the lone proven returning threat, so the class leans on Georgia Tech transfer Isiah Canion, who brings 32 catches and 467 yards of production, to step in as an immediate starter. With four-star signees Craig Dandridge, Ryan Mosley and Dallas Dickerson also arriving, this room is a bet that fresh talent outpaces experience, especially given an offense whose explosiveness ranked 129th despite a 47.8% success rate.
Lawson Luckie moves from complementary piece to focal point now that Oscar Delp's 20 catches are off the roster, and his 4 touchdowns on just 15 grabs last year hint at the red-zone role Georgia wants to expand. Elyiss Williams offers a proven second option after his 117 yards, but the bigger bet is the influx of four-star arrivals Kaiden Prothro, Lincoln Keyes and Brayden Fogle, none of whom has caught a college pass yet. With Georgia's passing game ranked 77th in yards per game, Luckie's ability to shoulder a heavier target share matters more than any name on the depth chart behind him.
Georgia allowed just 18 sacks and posted the No. 7 mark nationally in points per scoring opportunity last season, but explosiveness ranked 129th, and this line's job is turning that efficient, low-splash offense into one that hits more chunk plays. Drew Bobo and Earnest Greene III are the elder statesmen of a room that returns 15 bodies against six departures including Micah Morris and Monroe Freeling, so continuity up front should be an asset even without a clear read on who actually starts. Five-star tackle Ekene Ogboko headlines a loaded incoming class with Tyreek Jemison and Graham Houston, developmental pieces for Kirby Smart rather than instant answers behind a group that already knows how to protect the quarterback.
Georgia stuffed the run at an elite clip in 2025 (82 yards allowed per game, 4th nationally) but generated almost no pressure doing it, finishing 108th in sacks and 109th in tackles for loss, a gap that made this front more stout than disruptive. Elijah Griffin (22 tackles, 2.5 TFL) and Xzavier McLeod anchor the interior again, but Kirby Smart went searching for juice off the edge, landing Auburn transfer Amaris Williams, who already has 6 TFL and 2 sacks on tape, plus five-star-caliber signee PJ Dean. Christen Miller's 4 TFL, 1.5 sacks are gone from the middle, so Jordan Hall and Josh Horton have to hold the point while Williams and the incoming edge class try to turn a bend-don't-break front into one that actually gets home.
CJ Allen's 88 tackles and 8 TFL walk out the door, but Georgia isn't rebuilding this group so much as reshuffling it. Raylen Wilson (74 tackles) and Chris Cole (4.5 sacks, 7 TFL) both stayed, giving Kirby Smart a proven pair to build around while Quintavius Johnson and Justin Williams push for bigger roles after modest 2025 snaps. The pass rush production isn't there yet with the group's sack totals modest, so 4-star signees Nick Abrams II and Elijah Littlejohn arrive as long-term answers rather than immediate saviors on a defense that already stones the run at a top-4 clip nationally.
KJ Bolden anchors this group again after his 77-tackle season, but the pass defense that ranked just 60th in yards allowed per game needs more from a secondary that returns plenty of tacklers without much ball production beyond Zion Branch and Demello Jones. Georgia didn't chase big names in the portal here, instead loading up on high school talent, with four-stars Caden Harris, Justice Fitzpatrick and Jordan Smith arriving to eventually push Ellis Robinson IV and Kyron Jones. The more immediate fix is Ja'Marley Riddle, whose 70 tackles and 4 TFL at East Carolina project him into a starting safety spot opposite Branch and give this defense the disruptive presence it lacked after losing Daylen Everette.
Peyton Woodring made 17 of 19 field goals with a long of 53 last season, and his return means Georgia does not have to blink at the one spot most teams scramble to fix. The bigger question is behind him at punter, where Brett Thorson's 45.5-yard average walks out the door and Drew Miller's six-punt sample is the only returning data point, putting real weight on incoming Wade Register to push for snaps. Kirby Smart's program has never treated special teams as an afterthought, and with Will Snellings back at long snapper, the operation stays steady even as the punting job gets sorted out.
Georgia gutted its receiving corps, losing Zachariah Branch, Dillon Bell, Colbie Young, Noah Thomas and tight end Oscar Delp, so Gunner Stockton throws to an almost entirely new group in 2026. Isiah Canion arrives from Georgia Tech off a 32-catch, 467-yard season to be the immediate replacement target, while Dante Dowdell steps in at running back after 560 yards and 3 touchdowns at Kentucky. The defense reshapes itself too, with Amaris Williams, Ja'Marley Riddle and Khalil Barnes brought in to offset CJ Allen's departure, betting that a No. 6 class and nine total transfers restock faster than Georgia's roster empties out.
Zachariah Branch's 811 yards walk out the door, so Georgia's offense tilts back toward the ground game built around Nate Frazier, Chauncey Bowens and Kentucky import Dante Dowdell. Gunner Stockton throwing for 2,894 yards with just 5 interceptions gives Kirby Smart a settled passer, but this team wins with whichever back separates from that three-man rotation and takes pressure off Stockton to replace Branch through the air. Dowdell's 560 yards at Kentucky suggest he can be the closer if Frazier and Bowens split carries too evenly.
Georgia went 12-2 with a 7-1 mark in conference play, but the bettors backing Kirby Smart's team as favorites paid a tax for it, covering just 43% overall and the same 43% as home favorites.
