UAC 2026 Season Preview

Tarleton's League to Lose

Tarleton State sits alone at the top, the No. 4 team nationally in a league where the next-best program checks in at No. 9. That gap is real, and it points straight to a rematch with Abilene Christian in the title game, with Austin Peay close enough at No. 16 to crash the party if either slips. West Georgia at No. 23 rounds out the group with actual contender status, but Eastern Kentucky, Central Arkansas and North Alabama project well behind that top tier. This is not a wide-open race so much as a hierarchy, with Tarleton State the clear favorite and Abilene Christian the only team built to meet them on the biggest stage.

Austin Peay Sets the Pace

Austin Peay tops the UAC preseason all-conference team with 6 selections, anchored by quarterback Chris Parson and receiver Jaden Robinson on offense and a defensive front loaded with David Portu, Marcus Howard, Jaycob Neely and TJ Cox Jr. But the honors are not concentrated in one place. Eastern Kentucky counters with Brayden Latham, Keshawn Hayden, Payne Miller, Kaden Smith and Derek Taylor, while Tarleton State stacks the back end with Fredd Adams, Jadan Aubert and Stephen Woods Jr., and Abilene Christian pairs Rovaughn Banks Jr. and Bryan Henry with defensive back Jocelyn Malaska. That spread across four programs signals a league with more than one power center even as Austin Peay claims the largest share of the spotlight.

UAC's Best Rooms

No program dominates the conference's position rankings, but Austin Peay comes closest, holding down both the quarterback room behind Chris Parson and the linebacker room behind Jaycob Neely, the only school with two No. 1 units. Eastern Kentucky splits the trench work, topping the league at running back with Brayden Latham and up front on defense with Keshawn Hayden, a pairing that points to a physical, run-heavy identity on both sides of the ball. The skill talent elsewhere is scattered rather than stacked: Central Arkansas leads receivers through Tyrell Pollard, Abilene Christian gets the nod at tight end with Bryan Henry, and Tarleton State's secondary is anchored by Fredd Adams. With six different schools claiming a top room, the conference's returning production is spread wide, and Austin Peay's two-room edge is the closest thing to a clear advantage anywhere on the depth chart.
