MVFC · 8-5 in 2025Youngstown State Penguins7-4 projected · srs #13 · 51% returningDoug PhillipsIvy · Andrew Aurich · 9-2 last season · No. 19 in our FCS ratings
DJ Gordon inherits a 36.5-point offense with less than half its production intact, and Harvard's 19th-place power rating over the coaches' final No. 23 says the modelers trust him to keep the Crimson attack near the top of the Ivy scoring chart even as the roster around him turns over.
Can Andrew Aurich rebuild a nine-win attack around a run game when only 47% of the offensive production returns? Harvard is not replacing Jaden Craig's arm so much as the surrounding cast that made 2025 hum, and Aurich's answer is to lean harder on the ground rather than ask DJ Gordon to throw his way through a rebuilt supporting cast. That bet favors Harvard, since a coach who already had the top power rating in the league with this group intact is the safer play than hoping a thin passing attack carries the load.
Coming off a 9-2 season and a 6-1 mark in league play, Harvard's 2026 test is not the schedule's ranking at 56 but three genuine toss-ups against Ivy contenders. The neutral-site clash with Yale sits at a coin-flip 48 percent, and trips to New Hampshire (54 percent) and Dartmouth (58 percent) are the games that will decide whether Andrew Aurich's group matches last year's finish. Everything else, from Columbia at 84 percent to Colgate at 77, projects as the kind of comfortable win that gets Harvard to a 7-3 season if it handles the three real fights.

A 9-2 finish and a 6-1 mark in league play is the best kind of proof of concept for Andrew Aurich, and the No. 19 power rating says this was not a fluke built on a soft schedule. Harvard controlled Ivy play for most of 2025, and that kind of conference dominance tends to buy a staff room to keep building rather than tinker. The 2026 question is not whether Aurich's approach works, it is how much higher this ceiling goes.
Harvard scored at a top-ten national clip in 2025 behind a passing game that ranked 9th nationally, and the arrow points to DJ Gordon steering that attack in 2026. He ran for 448 yards and 5 touchdowns a year ago, so this projects less as a drop-back rebuild and more as a dual-threat expansion of an offense that already moved the ball at 6.49 yards per play. The bigger question is whether the ground game climbs out of its 46th-ranked rushing mark, because Gordon's legs alone won't fix that number.
DJ Gordon takes the first-team reps into 2026 as the front-runner, not the incumbent, after running for 448 yards and 5 touchdowns a year ago behind an offense that ranked 9th nationally in scoring and 9th in passing yards per game. That production came under Jaden Craig's watch, and his departure leaves the door open for Gordon to hold off Dante Torres, Ty Fein, Sam Kaiser and Charlie Smith, none of whom have thrown a pass on the books. Andrew Aurich still has to settle the job in camp, but Gordon's rushing résumé and head start give Harvard a real chance to keep its explosive third-down offense (47.6%, 10th nationally) humming without much of a learning curve.
Xaviah Bascon returns off a 626-yard, 7-touchdown season as the clear centerpiece, with Jordan Harris (341 yards) and Isaiah Bullock (4 TD on just 134 yards) giving Andrew Aurich a rotation that already produced 164 rushing yards per game, good for only 46th nationally despite Harvard's offense ranking 9th in scoring and 9th in passing yards. That gap between an explosive, pass-heavy attack and a middling ground game is the real story, and it means the run game's job in 2026 is efficiency and change-of-pace work behind a passing attack that already carries the offense. Najee Calhoun arrives from Bergen Catholic to add another option, but the backfield's ceiling still runs through Bascon punching in short yardage while the offense throws to set up the numbers he's already shown.
Brady Blackburn (37 catches, 705 yards, 5 TD) is the one proven target left after Harvard's passing game, which ranked 9th nationally in yards per game, lost its second and third options in Cam Henry and Dean Boyd. Ryan Tattersall's 293 yards give Aurich a real complement to Blackburn, but the door is open for Tafari Moe or incoming three-star Judge Nash to become the guy who takes pressure off both of them. A passing attack that productive does not need to be rebuilt so much as re-sorted, and Blackburn's target share says this stays Harvard's identity in 2026.
Seamus Gilmartin's 28 catches, 366 yards and 5 touchdowns anchor this room, and he inherits an even bigger role with Ryan Osborne's 229 yards and 3 scores off the books. Logan Reaska comes back too after 10 grabs and 2 touchdowns, giving Harvard's efficient passing game, ninth nationally at 275 yards per game through the air, a proven complement behind Gilmartin. Henry Anthony, Sanders Daniell, Leo Li and Teigan Pelletier have no production on the books yet, so the tight end passing game leans on Gilmartin and Reaska to keep that third-down rate near the top-ten mark it hit in 2025.
Harvard's line last year backed an offense that hit 439 yards and 275 through the air, ranking 9th nationally in scoring, but five linemen who helped build that are gone: Max Bowman, Carter Daly, Jackson Newville, Aidan Kilstrom and Derek Osman all departed. Enzo Agostini, Ian Cooper, Logan Demchyk, Dominik Di Filippo and Spencer Doan return to anchor the rebuild, joined by incoming linemen Rowan Ahrens and Myles Batesky. With that much experience out the door, Andrew Aurich is leaning on continuity up front to keep a top-20 yards-per-play attack (6.49, 18th nationally) from stalling behind a retooled group.
A line that helped hold Ivy opponents to 4.91 yards per play (12th nationally) and just 125 rushing yards a game returns almost entirely intact, with Achilles Anderson, JP Danaher and Griffin Egan back inside and Jack Crowley, Jake Darling and Josh Fedd back off the edge. The only losses up front were Xavier Agostino and Alex DeGrieck, and Harvard didn't stand still, adding Mikhal Johnson off the edge from Sierra Canyon and Brock Heisler from Hempfield Area. Andrew Aurich built a front that stayed stout against the run in 2025, and with that much of it still intact for 2026, the pass rush now has to close the gap on a passing defense that ranked 28th in yards allowed.
Harvard's defense finished 10th in yards allowed per game a year ago, and the front seven returns largely intact behind Ben Alvarez, Dorsey Benefield, Ethan Carson, Jordan Gonzalez, Owen Johnson and Sean Line. Jaeden Kinlock and Jack Kirkwood are the losses up the middle, but with none of the returning names carrying heavy statistical baggage from 2025, this looks like continuity of scheme and personnel rather than a rebuild. The bigger question for Andrew Aurich is the pass defense, which ranked 28th in yards allowed per game, and how much this linebacker corps can help tighten that against opponents who stayed on schedule 42.0% of the time.
Harvard's back end held up its end of a 9-2 season, finishing 10th in yards allowed per game and 12th in yards per play allowed, and the group that did it is largely intact. Xaden Benson, Jourdan Brissett, John Chung, Teddy Chung, Jack Donahoe and Omari Gayles all return, which matters more than the loss of safeties Delian Bradley and Ty Bartrum. The one soft spot was the pass defense at 28th in passing yards allowed, and Harvard is banking on high school signee Iroc Cordova and Seminole product Austin Olivas to tighten that up rather than overhauling the group.
Kieran Corr made 11 of 13 field goals with a 53-yarder last season and returns as the settled option, pushing Dylan Fingersh (1 of 1, 29 long) into a backup complementary role rather than a competition. Brian Checkley is back at punter, though his sample is thin at just 3 punts for a 42.3 average, so his workload should climb significantly in 2026. With Jack Baade and Jack Smith both back at long snapper and Jonathan Rubin also in the placekicking mix, Harvard's operation is built on continuity rather than a rebuild, which matters after a 9-2, 6-1 conference season where special teams execution was rarely the issue.
Harvard loses zero players to the portal and returns the bulk of a 9-2 team, but the ground game is the whole operation with DJ Gordon projected to run the offense after piling up 448 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns last year. Gordon has Xaviah Bascon (626 yards, 7 TD) and Jordan Harris (341 yards) behind him and Brady Blackburn (705 yards) to throw to, so if Gordon handles the reps as the primary ball-carrier and decision-maker, this offense keeps rolling largely unchanged from a team that went 6-1 in the Ivy League.
Harvard went 9-2 straight up in 2025 but only 5-6 against the spread, the classic sign of a team that outperformed the number more than it outclassed opponents. Perfect at home straight up (5-0) yet just 2-3 against the spread there, bettors kept overcorrecting for a team that found ways to win without piling up margin. The version of Harvard that shows up against ranked competition (0-2 against the spread, 0-2 straight up) is the one that should temper expectations for 2026, since Andrew Aurich's group has proven it wins the games it is supposed to but has not yet shown it can cover, let alone beat, the level above it.
