Ivy 2026 Season Preview

Yale's Race to Lose

Yale sits atop the league at No. 15 nationally, the clear favorite over a Harvard team projected right behind it at No. 19, and the two are on a collision course for the title game. That gap between the top two and the rest is real: Dartmouth checks in at No. 37 as the best of the chasing pack, with Pennsylvania and Princeton bunched further back at No. 50 and No. 62. This isn't an eight-team scramble, it's a two-team league with six programs playing for third, and Yale-Harvard projects to settle it directly.

Brown Owns the Ballot

Brown dominates the preseason all-conference team with 9 picks, and the load is split evenly, quarterback James Murphy and running back Matt Childs anchor the offense while Ike Odimegwu, Liam Fitzgerald, Stefano Montella and a four-man secondary of Miles Brophy, Cap Davis, Kalyl Lindsey and Brock Owen stack the defense. Columbia is the clear counterweight up front and at linebacker with Luke Walker, Keller Patterson, Charlie Newton and Brendan Fournier all earning first-team nods, while Harvard and Yale each land a skill piece, Xaviah Bascon and Brady Blackburn for Harvard, Jaxton Santiago for Yale, and Cornell's Ryder Kurtz is the lone tight end selected. That spread, one program stacking nine slots while three others split the rest, points to Brown as the league's clear top-end team with real, if thinner, quality behind it.

Talent Scattered, Not Stacked

No program owns this league's skill positions outright. Brown's James Murphy paces the conference at quarterback, Harvard's Xaviah Bascon tops the backfield, Princeton's Josh Robinson leads receivers, and Cornell's Ryder Kurtz sets the bar at tight end, four different schools claiming the four best returning rooms. Brown edges the field with the most No. 1 rooms in the league, but that is just 1 of 4 groups, proof the Ivy race runs through returning production spread across campuses rather than concentrated in one roster.
