MVFC Owns the Bracket

Montana State grabs the top seed and the first-round bye that comes with it at 10-2, but the real story is the MVFC's stranglehold on this field, with six bids and three of the eight byes going to North Dakota, Illinois State and Southern Illinois alongside South Dakota State. Montana, Tarleton State and Stephen F. Austin round out the bye group, meaning half the league quarterfinal spots are already spoken for before a single first-round game kicks off. The bubble tells a sharper story than the top: South Carolina State sneaks in as the No. 24 seed while SE Louisiana, ranked one spot better nationally at No. 21, is left out entirely, a reminder that at-large math and conference-champion bids do not always reward the higher-rated team.
