MVFC · 8-5 in 2025Youngstown State Penguins7-4 projected · srs #13 · 51% returningDoug PhillipsIvy · Sammy McCorkle · 7-3 last season · No. 37 in our FCS ratings
Grayson Saunier owns this offense outright in 2026, and with a defense that ranked 21st in scoring defense a year ago shedding just under half its production, the margin for his growth is thinner than the power rating of 37 suggests.
Who takes over the 929 yards and 10 touchdowns D.J. Crowther leaves behind on the ground? Grayson Saunier returns as the established starting quarterback, and with just 59.1% of the offense's production back, the run game rebuild falls on whoever lines up behind him rather than on Saunier reinventing his role. Expect Dartmouth to lean on Saunier's continuity through the air while the ground attack takes time to replace Crowther's workload.
Dartmouth's season comes down to three toss-ups: at Lehigh (27%), at Yale (29%), and a home date with Harvard (42%) that will settle the Ivy pecking order. Sammy McCorkle's group gets Pennsylvania and Brown at home as winnable spots, but neither the Lehigh nor Yale trip favors the Big Green on paper. Split those coin flips and 5-5 undersells this team; lose all three and it looks about right.

Sammy McCorkle's group closed 2025 at 7-3 overall and 4-3 in the Ivy, the kind of season that puts Dartmouth among the sport's more respected programs outside the Power conferences. That combination of a winning record and a competitive league mark gives McCorkle a clear foundation heading into 2026 rather than a rebuild. The bar now is matching that level of play again, not simply repeating last year's record.
Dartmouth's offense won on repetition, not fireworks, leading the country in third-down conversion rate at 53.4% while ranking just 97th in explosiveness. Grayson Saunier is back after throwing for 2,142 yards with a modest 9 TD to 7 INT mark, and that ratio is the real swing factor for 2026 given how much this attack leans on staying on schedule rather than hitting big plays. If Saunier tightens the turnover rate, the chain-moving identity underneath him is already good enough to carry a similar record.
Grayson Saunier's 2025 line, 2,142 yards with 9 touchdowns against 7 interceptions, undersells what the offense actually did around him. Dartmouth ran the top third-down conversion rate in the country at 53.4% while Saunier's passing game ranked just 56th nationally in yards per game, a split that points to a system leaning on efficiency and manufactured downs rather than his arm. The explosiveness number, 97th nationally, is the real problem, and with Saunier back as the established starter the 2026 story is whether Dartmouth can turn those third-down conversions into more chunk plays instead of just more snaps.
D.J. Crowther's 929 yards walk out the door along with Desmin Jackson's 170, gutting a ground game that ranked 48th nationally in rushing yards per game a year ago. What's left is Myles Craddock, who managed just 72 yards and a score in a backup role, now the clear returning name in a backfield that also lists Dylan Elder and Colin O'Garro without a proven workhorse among them. Sammy McCorkle still has that elite third-down offense (1st nationally) and a top-10 success rate to lean on, so this backfield doesn't need to be explosive, just steady enough that Craddock can round into the early-down role Crowther vacated.
Ky'Dric Fisher comes back as the clear top target after his 21 catches for 341 yards, with Luke Rives and Nick Lemon both around 14 grabs to fill in behind him. The bigger swing is production lost up top: Grayson O'Bara's 44 catches for 590 yards and 2 scores walk out the door, and that kind of volume has no direct replacement on this roster as currently built. Dartmouth also added high school signee Blake Betette out of Richland Northeast, a name to track as Fisher's supporting cast tries to keep the passing game from slipping below its 56th-ranked output from a year ago.
Chris Corbo's 45 catches and 516 yards walk out the door with him, leaving a tight end room that caught one combined pass a year ago among its returners. Taysire Williams is the only holdover with any receiving stat on record, a single 21-yard grab, while John Bancone, Corban Hall, Gergely Hudak and Kristian Strong all return without a catch logged. That production gap lands on an offense that was already thin in the passing game relative to its efficiency, ranking just 97th in explosiveness despite finishing 1st nationally in third-down conversion rate, so whoever emerges among that group needs to add a big-play element Corbo alone used to provide.
Dartmouth's line paved the way for a 53.4% third-down conversion rate and the nation's 10th-best success rate in 2025, but five linemen are out the door, including Michael Betsy and Konstantin Spörk, leaving Sammy McCorkle to reassemble the unit around Godson Ajoku, Paul Binder, Francisco Caballero, Cam Davenport and Max Livingston. That group's efficiency numbers were never about explosive plays anyway, ranking just 97th in explosiveness, so the priority is holding onto the short-yardage identity rather than reinventing it. Mikey McMahon and Brody McLeod arrive as interior additions, and how quickly either pushes into the two-deep will say more about 2026 than any name already in the room.
Dartmouth held opponents to 109 rushing yards a game, 10th nationally, and that identity has to survive without Jabari Johnson, Joe Onuwabhagbe and Dakota Quinonez up front. Jackson Ashford, Chris Chol and Taylor Faalele return in the interior, with Ben Devall and Joshua Johnson back off the edge to anchor a group that still gave up 234 passing yards a game, 81st nationally. Gavin King arrives at defensive line from Loyola Academy and August Dupree signs in at EDGE out of Folsom, both tasked with adding juice to a pass rush that needs to turn a solid run-stopping front into one that actually bothers the quarterback.
Dartmouth's front seven held up against the run (109 yards allowed per game, 10th nationally) but bled yardage through the air, a gap that shows up in the 81st-ranked pass defense. That imbalance now falls to a linebacker corps that returns nearly intact, with Matthew Boydell, Sean Chester, Cameron Lee, Uche Odimegwu, Charlie Prior and Johnny Riley all back, even after losing Nico Schwikal, Thaddeus Gianaris and Zyion Freer-Brown from last year's group. George Duggins arrives from Mona Shores to add competition, but the real swing factor is whether the returning core can turn its run-stopping identity into more consistent coverage answers, since points allowed at 21.3 per game (21st) suggest a defense good enough to be pushed toward the top tier if the pass numbers close the gap.
Dartmouth's secondary held up against the run in a big way last season, with the defense checking in 10th nationally against the rush, but the pass defense lagged at 81st, and that gap is the whole story for 2026. Jorden Barnes returns at corner alongside Cameron Best-Alston, Thai Brown, Jackson Cheatham, Santino Cicarella and Ethan Couvertiere, a group with no gaudy numbers on the books but plenty of snaps banked, even as Jamal Cooper, Tyson Grimm, Sean Williams and Patrick Campbell are gone from that back end. The floor is already respectable at 21st in points allowed per game, so the swing factor is whether this returning group can tighten coverage enough to stop letting opponents stay on schedule, a category where Dartmouth ranked just 85th.
Owen Zalc made just 9 of 17 field goals a year ago, but the 51-yard long and 56 points he banked show the leg is real when the operation cooperates, and he heads a three-way kicking mix with Julian Coviello and Matisse Weaver still on the roster. Luke Armistead's return at punter is the steadier piece, coming off a 42.7-yard average on 26 punts that gives Sammy McCorkle a proven weapon to flip field position. The bigger swing for 2026 is turning Zalc's leg into points, since a team that went 7-3 last year can't keep leaving that many field goals on the grass.
Dartmouth lost D.J. Crowther's 929 yards on the ground and sent 11 players out the portal without bringing in a single replacement, so Grayson Saunier has to carry the offense through sheer volume rather than lean on a ground game. He's the proven arm with 2,142 yards, but the 7 interceptions against 9 touchdowns are the real swing number, and cutting that ratio down while Ky'Dric Fisher and Nick Lemon work as his top targets decides whether this offense holds up or unravels.
Dartmouth went 7-3 straight up under Sammy McCorkle but covered the spread only 33% of the time, a split that says the outright record flattered a team that rarely won by the expected margin. Home games were the extreme version of the story, five straight-up wins against a coin-flip 2-2-1 against the number, meaning bettors kept overestimating this team even as it kept finding ways to win close. Conference play cratered further at 1-5-1 against the spread, so the same script figures to hold in 2026: the Big Green can be trusted to find outright wins before it can be trusted to cover them.
