AFC West 2026 Season Preview

Broncos on Top, Barely

Denver sits atop the AFC West at No. 9 in the league, but the gap to the field is thin. The Chiefs land right behind at No. 12, and a three-spot difference between projected 9-8 clubs is basically a coin flip. The Chargers, projected 8-9 and ranked 14th, are close enough to crash the race too. Only the Raiders separate themselves from the pack, checking in at No. 31 and projected 7-10, a clear step below the other three. This division looks wide open at the top and settled at the bottom.

Denver's Talent Surplus

Denver dominates this list with seven selections, and the spread tells the real story: this is a defense-first division built around the trenches. Zach Allen, Nik Bonitto and Riley Moss anchor a Broncos unit that pairs with Bo Nix, Courtland Sutton and Jaylen Waddle to give the club a rare two-way presence. Kansas City counters with its own front-seven muscle in Chris Jones, George Karlaftis and Nick Bolton, plus Travis Kelce and Kenneth Walker III on offense. The Chargers lean almost entirely on defense, with Derwin James Jr., Tuli Tuipulotu and Tony Jefferson doing the heavy lifting while Ladd McConkey stands as their lone offensive name, and Ashton Jeanty gives Las Vegas its single offensive foothold alongside Maxx Crosby and Quay Walker up front.

Broncos Own the Board

Denver holds the most top rooms in the division, claiming three of seven with Courtland Sutton's receivers, Nik Bonitto's linebackers and Riley Moss anchoring the back end. That spread says the Broncos' defense has become the division's identity, not just a strength. Kansas City still counters where it matters most, with Patrick Mahomes and Kenneth Walker III giving the Chiefs the top backfield and top quarterback room outright. Las Vegas splits the difference up front, pairing Brock Bowers at tight end with Maxx Crosby anchoring the division's best defensive line.
