Seattle Storm forward Ezi Magbegor has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2026 WNBA season after suffering a torn ACL while playing for Australia at the FIBA World Cup in Germany. The injury occurred during the first quarter of Australia's quarterfinal against Italy on Wednesday.
Magbegor, a four-time all-defensive selection and 2023 WNBA All-Star, will need surgery. A statement from Basketball Australia did not disclose additional details on when and where the procedure would take place.
Magbegor had been limited to 14 games this season due to a foot injury and facial fracture, averaging 6.9 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.2 blocks. She signed a three-year extension with the Storm in April.
The Australian Opals have dealt with multiple injuries and illnesses at the World Cup. Forward Alanna Smith played 12 minutes in group play before suffering a lower leg injury and was shut down for the tournament. Guard Sami Whitcomb missed the entire event due to a left knee issue, and Jade Melbourne was sidelined with illness.
