Kohler commits to BYU after fifth-year injunction

Jaxon Kohler has committed to BYU for a fifth season after a temporary restraining order cleared him to play beyond his initial eligibility, his agent told ESPN on Thursday. Kohler, a former Michigan State forward, was not selected in the 2026 NBA draft after averaging 12.5 points and 8.9 rebounds last season while shooting 39% from 3-point range. He signed an Exhibit 10 contract and played for the Utah Jazz in summer league.

The TRO allows Kohler and other plaintiffs in a California case to play a fifth year despite having signed professional contracts. The NCAA could appeal the ruling, though a pending federal case in Colorado could eventually clear all players who started in the 2022-23 season to compete in 2026-27.

Kohler, an all-Big Ten honorable mention last season, joins Kentucky transfer Collin Chandler, veteran Rob Wright III and five-star forward Bruce Branch III as part of BYU's forward group after the team lost No. 1 pick AJ Dybantsa to the NBA.
