The Howlers made an early run hold up, shutting out the Pelicans 2-0 behind stingy pitching and timely hitting. Erick Dessens drove in a run with a first-inning grounder, and Yeiferth Castillo collected an RBI to spark the offense. The Howlers out-hit the Pelicans 3-1 en route to improving to 49-65, while the Pelicans fell to 45-67.
Dessens plated the go-ahead run in the top of the first when his grounder to short forced Martinez home via the double-play ball turned by Nunez and Cabada.
Castillo led the Howlers with an RBI, providing the offensive spark in what proved a tight, low-scoring affair.
The Howlers' pitching staff was the story, holding the Pelicans to just one hit while securing a shutout win.
The full ladder, with both clubs marked.
