Saints long snapper Zach Wood sidelined with calf strain

New Orleans Saints long-snapper Zach Wood has a calf strain and is expected to miss significant time, a source told ESPN.

Wood has a Grade II calf strain, which could keep him out about 4-6 weeks, the source said. The source said Wood felt tightness in his calf and underwent tests Wednesday, which revealed the strain.

The Saints did not try out long-snappers Wednesday but probably will need to bring in players for tryouts without a long-snapper on the practice squad. Defensive tackle John Ridgeway III handled emergency long-snapping duties in training camp when Wood missed a practice while attending Drew Brees' Hall of Fame ceremony in Canton, Ohio.

Wood, 33, is in his 10th season with the Saints. He and Alvin Kamara are the second-longest tenured Saints players, behind Cameron Jordan, and Wood hasn't sat out a game since signing with New Orleans in 2017. Wood was not on the Saints injury report Wednesday.
