Ravens place rookie WR Ja'Kobi Lane on IR

Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens placed wide receiver Ja'Kobi Lane on injured reserve after the rookie had surgery on his fractured wrist Wednesday morning.

Lane is expected to return as soon as he's eligible to come off IR in four weeks. "[Lane] definitely has a really good chance coming back here pretty quick," Ravens coach Jesse Minter said. "I know he'll be chomping at the bit to get back."

A third-round pick in this year's draft, Lane rose up the depth chart this summer and entered the season as Baltimore's No. 3 receiver behind Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman. In the 41-23 season-opening win at the Colts, Lane finished with one catch for 11 yards, and he had a 4-yard touchdown catch nullified because of a holding penalty. He injured his wrist in the first half and didn't return after halftime.

"He's definitely beating himself up about it, but it's only so much he can control," Bateman said. "Injuries are part of the game and his is unfortunate. But whenever he comes back, he'll be ready."

Flowers didn't practice Wednesday after aggravating his left hamstring on Sunday. He led Baltimore with 150 yards receiving before hurting his hamstring with about 5 1/2 minutes left in the first half and remains day-to-day. If Flowers can't play Sunday against the Saints, Bateman becomes the most experienced wide receiver and will likely receive increased opportunities.
