Lions rule out linemen Mahogany, Miller vs. Bills

Lions offensive linemen Christian Mahogany (hip) and Blake Miller (knee) have been ruled out ahead of Thursday night's game in Buffalo. Both players missed practice during the short week following Sunday's season-opening 31-30 overtime victory against the Saints but had remained optimistic about possibly playing before being ruled out.

Miller, the Lions' 17th overall pick in the draft, started at right tackle against the Saints and said he felt pain in his knee during the game that worsened afterward. "Just kind of one of those things," Miller said Monday. "You come off after a drive, something feels a little weird. You gotta get home and the adrenaline wears off and you start to notice it a little more."

Mahogany, who started at left guard, was carted off the field in the opening quarter of Week 1 and ruled out after appearing to get hurt on a non-contact play, stumbling in the open field as running back Jahmyr Gibbs broke for a 21-yard gain. Lions coach Dan Campbell said Monday he does not believe the injury is serious long term, though it could be tough to get Mahogany ready for Thursday.

Campbell said the Lions feel they have enough depth to get through the absences. Without Mahogany and Miller, veteran Larry Borom will likely take Miller's spot at right tackle while Ben Bartch will replace Mahogany at left guard.
