Vonnahme likely out for Iowa's game vs Northern Iowa

Iowa could be without several offensive contributors Saturday as it wraps up non-league play by hosting Northern Iowa. Starting tight end DJ Vonnahme likely will miss the game with an injury sustained in last week's win against Iowa State, coach Kirk Ferentz said Tuesday.

Vonnahme led No. 18 Iowa with 29 receptions for 434 yards last season and has six catches for 67 yards this fall. "I don't think he'll make it this week, but there's a good chance a week from now he should be good to go," Ferentz said. "It's day-by-day, so like a lot of injuries, you're never quite sure until we see how things materialize."

Starting running back Kamari Moulton is day-to-day for the Northern Iowa game. Backup L.J. Phillips Jr. is making "good progress" in his recovery from a high ankle sprain sustained in the season opener against Northern Illinois, where he had four carries. "I'm not going to say 'no' yet," Ferentz said of Phillips. "It's a lower-leg thing, so just getting the confidence to play that position, a little bit different."

Ferentz said Hank Brown, who has started Iowa's first two games at quarterback, likely will remain in the role this week. Brown took the snaps in the Iowa State game after sharing time with Jeremy Hecklinski in the opener.
