The Rams pursued Maxx Crosby shortly after his trade from the Raiders to the Ravens fell through because of a failed physical, sources told NFL Network. The Rams were described as the strongest club pushing for a deal, though other teams were also interested.
Crosby made clear to anyone interested, including his own organization, that he did not want to be traded and wanted to remain with the Raiders. Crosby responded to the failed Ravens trade by saying, "I'm a Raider. I'm back. Run that s---." He delivered a similar message to the Rams and other teams pursuing him.
The original plan had been for the Raiders to trade Crosby to the Ravens in a deal that would have sent two first-rounders back to Las Vegas, but Baltimore was not comfortable with Crosby's surgically repaired knee and the deal fell through.
The Eagles, Cowboys and 49ers were also monitoring the situation and interested, but no deal materialized, prompting the Rams to turn their attention to Myles Garrett for their blockbuster trade this summer. The Raiders, who spent hundreds of millions in free agency, were a much more talented team by the time Crosby made clear he would not be traded again. Sources say Crosby's knee has had no issues and he is in excellent health.
