Lewis Hall signed a new contract at Newcastle, ending speculation that Manchester United would pursue the England defender. The 21-year-old's previous deal ran until the end of 2029, and Newcastle confirmed the new contract is for the "long term," reported to be until 2031. United had targeted Hall in the left-back position over the summer window, and while no official bids were lodged, Newcastle were braced for more winter speculation.
"I'm absolutely delighted," Hall said. "It's a really proud moment. It's an absolute pleasure to play for this club and to represent the supporters." Hall cited a family connection with the club as a key factor in his decision. "One of the main reasons I play is to make my family proud, and I know how much it means to them to watch me playing for Newcastle United," he said.
Hall's new deal follows a summer exodus at Newcastle, with Bruno Guimarães, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon among the stars to have left. Newcastle's sporting director noted that clubs must trade players to remain successful in the Premier League.
