The Toronto Maple Leafs have fired assistant general manager Hayley Wickenheiser as part of a significant front office overhaul. Wickenheiser, a Hockey Hall of Famer and Olympic champion, had been with the team since 2018 and became assistant GM in 2022. She confirmed her departure via social media, expressing disappointment over the change in direction under new general manager John Chayka.
In addition to Wickenheiser, the Maple Leafs let go of nearly a dozen employees, including assistant GM Darryl Metcalf and head of amateur scouting Mark Leach. Chayka stated that these decisions were part of an ongoing evaluation of the organization and did not reflect the commitment of those affected.
