Daniel Alfredsson is leaving the Ottawa Senators to join the Toronto Maple Leafs as an associate coach, the Leafs announced on Tuesday. Alfredsson, 53, previously spent three seasons as an assistant coach in Ottawa after a Hall of Fame playing career with the Senators.
The Maple Leafs also announced the addition of John Gruden and Brad Werenka to coach Jim Hiller's staff. Senators owner Michael Andlauer expressed regret over Alfredsson joining a rival but stated that the door remains open for his return.
