The Dallas Cowboys agreed to a three-year extension with tight end Brevyn Spann-Ford, according to his agent, Mike McCartney. Sources told ESPN the deal is worth $18 million, with $12.075 million guaranteed. The extension keeps Spann-Ford under contract through 2029.
Spann-Ford had been set to become a restricted free agent after the season and was scheduled to make $1.075 million this season. He joined the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent out of Minnesota in 2024 and has developed into the team's No. 2 tight end behind Jake Ferguson.
In his first two seasons, Spann-Ford has 18 receptions for 178 yards and a touchdown. Known initially for his blocking, he has become more of a threat in the pass game. He has also been one of the Cowboys' better special teams players, recording 23 tackles last year.
Coach Brian Schottenheimer praised Spann-Ford's physicality and development as a receiver during training camp, saying, "Just a tough, physical football player that loves the physical aspect of the game, can be dominant in the run game and protection phase, but what he's developing from a pass receiving standpoint at the top of the route, the tight turns, the power cuts, things like that, that's where I've noticed the biggest game. And he's a big target."
The Cowboys signed Ferguson to a four-year, $52 million extension last year. The team also has former second-round pick Luke Schoonmaker at tight end on the 53-man roster, and he is set to be an unrestricted free agent after this season. Since the offseason, Dallas has also re-signed running back Javonte Williams, kicker Brandon Aubrey and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, while placing the franchise tag on wide receiver George Pickens.
