Justin Sourdif signed an eight-year contract with the Capitals worth $6.35 million annually, becoming the second member of the team to commit to Washington on Tuesday.
Sourdif, 24, went from one point in four NHL games to a breakthrough first full NHL campaign in 2025-26, scoring 15 goals and 35 points in 78 games. He was one of 11 players who finished with more than 10 goals for the Capitals in a season that saw them finish four points out of the second and final Eastern Conference wild-card spot.
Sourdif was slated to be a restricted free agent, as he was in the final season of a two-year deal worth $825,000 annually. His new contract starts next season and puts him in a group of a dozen Capitals players with more than three years remaining on their contracts.
That group also includes forward Ryan Leonard, who signed an eight-year deal worth $10.5 million annually that also starts at the beginning of the 2026-27 season.
