The Chicago Blackhawks are set to sign defenseman Bowen Byram to a six-year, $75 million contract extension, as reported by sources to ESPN. The deal, which features an average annual value of $12.5 million, will make Byram the highest-paid defenseman in the NHL, surpassing Rasmus Dahlin's $11 million cap hit.
Byram, 25, was acquired from the Buffalo Sabres in a trade that also involved forward Jordan Greenway. He previously played behind Cale Makar in Colorado and is looking to step into a No. 1 defenseman role with the Blackhawks. Byram is coming off a season where he scored 11 goals and a career-high 42 points.
