Baylor quarterback DJ Lagway will not play Saturday against Prairie View A&M after suffering an ankle injury in the season opener, sources told ESPN on Friday. Junior Nate Bennett will start in his place.
Lagway suffered the injury in the Bears' 17-16 loss to Auburn in his first game for Baylor after transferring from Florida. He is not expected to be out long-term, sources said, but will not be available against Prairie View A&M.
Bennett, a 6-1, 192-pound junior from Westlake Village, California, appeared in five games as a backup to Sawyer Robertson over the previous two seasons, completing 6 of 9 passes for 53 yards. Lagway was 27-of-54 for 333 yards with two touchdowns, an interception and a lost fumble in the loss to Auburn.
