Baylor quarterback DJ Lagway will not play Saturday against Prairie View A&M after suffering an ankle injury in the season opener, sources told ESPN on Friday. Junior Nate Bennett will make his first career start for the Bears, sources said.
Lagway suffered the injury in Baylor's 17-16 loss to Auburn, his first game for Baylor after transferring from Florida. He is not expected to be out long-term, sources said, but will not be available for Saturday's game.
Bennett, a 6-1, 192-pound junior from Westlake Village, California, has appeared in five games as a backup to Sawyer Robertson over the previous two seasons, completing 6 of 9 passes for 53 yards.
In the loss to Auburn, Lagway went 27-of-54 for 333 yards with two touchdowns, an interception and a lost fumble. His game-winning 2-point conversion attempt to tight end Matthew Klopfenstein was stopped inches short of the goal line.
