Von Miller agrees to one-year deal with Cowboys
Von Miller is agreeing to a one-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. Miller attended DeSoto High School in Texas before heading to Texas A&M, and is entering his 15th season with more sacks (138.5) than any other active player.
Miller will be part of a pass-rush rotation that features Rashan Gary, Donovan Ezeiruaku, first-round pick Malachi Lawrence and potentially Sam Williams, James Houston and Marist Liufau. Now 37, Miller recorded nine sacks last season for the Washington Commanders, his highest total since 2021 when he had 9.5 while splitting time with the Denver Broncos and the Los Angeles Rams.
Miller was a first-round pick of the Broncos in 2011, has been named to the Pro Bowl eight times, and has been a first- or second-team All Pro seven times. He was the NFL's Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2011 and twice finished second in Defensive Player of the Year voting, in 2012 and 2016. He was the MVP of Denver's Super Bowl 50 win, pairing with former Cowboys Hall of Famer DeMarcus Ware, and won a second Super Bowl ring after being dealt to the Rams.
Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones had hinted at the start of training camp at possibly adding a significant piece to the defense. Last week, the team signed defensive tackle Quinnen Williams to a three-year, $105.9 million extension before adding Miller.
The Cowboys believe Miller can be a difference-maker for new coordinator Christian Parker, who was together with Miller in Denver for parts of one season before Miller was dealt to Los Angeles. After half a season with the Rams, Miller signed with the Buffalo Bills as a free agent and played three years there, though two were impacted by a torn ACL that caused him to miss the final five games of the 2022 season and the first four of the following season.
