Timberwolves trade 3-and-D wing Josh Green to Jazz

The Timberwolves are trading Josh Green and cash to the Jazz for Cody Williams and John Konchar, sources told ESPN on Friday night.

Minnesota is expected to keep Williams, the No. 10 pick in 2024, and waive-and-stretch Konchar. Saturday is the final day to waive a player and stretch his guaranteed salary over multiple seasons, and the Timberwolves plan to stretch Konchar's salary for $2.05 million across three straight years.

Waiving and stretching Konchar allows Minnesota to sign a 15th player and gives the team more apron flexibility during the season.

The Timberwolves discussed multiple trade scenarios for Green in order to sign newly acquired forward Jonathan Kuminga using the taxpayer midlevel exception. The Jazz wanted an additional 3-and-D wing and provided a home for Green.

Moving Green's $14.7 million deal gives Minnesota the salary space to complete signing Kuminga to a two-year, $12.4 million contract.
