Tiering college quarterbacks by 2027 NFL draft stock
ESPN's Jordan Reid has released early tiers for the 2027 NFL draft's quarterback class, placing 31 draft-eligible and draft-worthy passers into Rounds 1 through 7 based on film study and conversations with scouts and evaluators. Reid noted the exercise reflects where players would grade if the draft were held next week, cautioning that some prospects could return to school or fail to develop as expected.
Reid tabbed four quarterbacks in his first-round tier: Notre Dame's CJ Carr, Texas' Arch Manning, Oklahoma State's Drew Mestemaker and Oregon's Dante Moore. Carr threw for 2,741 yards with 24 touchdowns and six interceptions last season, while Manning passed for 3,163 yards and 26 touchdowns with seven interceptions and added 399 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns.
Mestemaker, a former walk-on who did not start in high school, threw for an FBS-best 4,379 yards with 34 touchdowns and nine interceptions last season at North Texas before his move to Oklahoma State.
Reid's second-round tier includes Ole Miss's Trinidad Chambliss, Miami's Darian Mensah, Ohio State's Julian Sayin and South Carolina's LaNorris Sellers. Mensah threw for 3,973 yards, 34 touchdowns and six interceptions last season while helping lead Duke to the ACC championship before transferring to Miami. Chambliss, who transitioned from Division II Ferris State to the SEC, helped lead Ole Miss to the College Football Playoff semifinals last season.
