South Carolina wide receivers Jayden Sellers and Jayden Gibson will miss the season after suffering lower-body injuries in practice last week, the team announced Sunday.
Sellers, the younger brother of Gamecocks quarterback LaNorris Sellers, impressed as a true freshman in 2025, recording 337 receiving yards and a touchdown on 22 catches in seven games while starting two games. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound receiver was expected to have a significant role as a slot receiver this fall.
Gibson, an Oklahoma transfer, missed the past two seasons at Oklahoma with injuries after recording 375 receiving yards and five touchdowns on 14 receptions in 2023. He was an SC Next 300 recruit in 2022.
South Carolina coach Shane Beamer said in a statement, "I am extremely disappointed for both of these young men. I know how hard each of them has worked over the spring and summer in getting ready for 2026 to help our team. I have full confidence they will both overcome the adversity they're facing, and we will help them in whatever way we can throughout the rehab process moving forward."
South Carolina returns leading receiver Nyck Harbor along with Mazeo Bennett Jr., and has added Purdue transfer Nitro Tuggle, who had 500 receiving yards on 34 receptions last fall. The Gamecocks open the season Sept. 5 when they host Kent State.
