Sources: Seahawks, CB Witherspoon agree to 4-year, $132M deal
The Seahawks and cornerback Devon Witherspoon have agreed to a four-year, $132 million extension, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. The deal includes more than $101 million in guaranteed money and makes Witherspoon the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history.
The extension was completed on the day the Seahawks opened their preseason against the Cowboys. The deal took longer than expected given that Seattle had turned its attention to Witherspoon's extension right after making Jaxon Smith-Njigba the NFL's highest-paid wide receiver in March. One possible hang-up was that Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez, who shares the same agent as Witherspoon, is also up for a top-of-the-market extension.
Witherspoon had been practicing throughout the offseason and into training camp despite not having an extension in place. Coach Mike Macdonald recently praised Witherspoon's approach amid the negotiations, saying he was "really impressed" by the cornerback's ability to compartmentalize the business side of things.
Witherspoon, 25, has made the Pro Bowl on the initial ballot in each of his first three seasons and is one of the physical and emotional tone-setters for Seattle's defense, which allowed the fewest points in 2025 before the Seahawks beat the Patriots 29-13 in Super Bowl LX. Witherspoon was one of the stars of that game, recording a sack of Drake Maye and delivering the hit on Maye that led to a pick-six by Uchenna Nwosu.
The Seahawks drafted Witherspoon with the fifth pick in 2023, a selection they acquired from the Broncos in the Russell Wilson trade. Seattle took Smith-Njigba 20th in that same draft. Witherspoon became the fourth player in team history to be named to the Pro Bowl in each of his first three seasons, and last year the Seahawks named him one of the franchise's 50 greatest players of all time.
