Sources: Dolphins acquire QB Kyle McCord in trade with Packers
The Miami Dolphins acquired quarterback Kyle McCord in a trade with the Green Bay Packers on Sunday in exchange for a 2028 sixth-round draft pick. McCord becomes starting quarterback Malik Willis' new backup with the Dolphins.
Miami traded Quinn Ewers to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday, and the pick sent to the Packers is the same one the Dolphins acquired in that deal, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. This marks the first trade between Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst and his former protege, Dolphins GM Jon-Eric Sullivan.
It remains to be seen whether the Dolphins are done adding to their quarterbacks room. Coach Jeff Hafley said it's likely the team keeps two quarterbacks on its initial 53-man roster. Miami released quarterbacks Cam Miller and Mark Gronowski on Sunday, and the Dolphins plan to re-sign Gronowski to their practice squad if he clears waivers, according to the Miami Herald.
McCord had signed with the Packers in January after spending the 2025 season on the practice squad of the Philadelphia Eagles, who drafted him in the sixth round last year. The Packers had signed veteran Tyrod Taylor in the offseason to be the backup to starter Jordan Love.
McCord started and played the entire preseason finale against the Arizona Cardinals on Friday, throwing four touchdown passes with no interceptions, including a 10-yard touchdown to Kisean Johnson in the final seconds to lead the Packers to a 42-38 win.
