Seahawks lose Clark, Richman for season to injury
The Seattle Seahawks placed safety Bud Clark and offensive lineman Mason Richman on injured reserve Tuesday, ruling both out for the 2026 season. Both players were hurt in the first quarter of the team's preseason game against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday in Nashville.
Clark, a rookie second-round pick, broke his ankle on the first defensive play. Richman, a 2025 seventh-round pick, injured his right leg on the opening series while playing left guard. Coach Mike Macdonald said postgame that Clark would miss "multiple months" and that Richman appeared to have suffered a "major" injury that would keep him out long term.
Because both players were placed on IR before Sunday's deadline for teams to trim their rosters to 53, neither is eligible to return off IR this season. Clark had been running with the second-team defense, and the Seahawks believed he would eventually push Ty Okada for the starting job opposite Julian Love. Richman was a versatile backup who could play tackle, guard and center.
"Two guys that we love, that play our style of ball, that are our types of guys, teammates love them, great teammates, great guys, great football players, they have great futures," Macdonald said postgame of Clark and Richman. "It's a heartbreaker, honestly. We had three heartbreakers this week, which is tough."
The Seahawks' trip to Nashville was costly, as wide receiver Jake Bobo also suffered a season-ending knee injury during a joint practice against the Titans on Friday. In corresponding roster moves, the Seahawks signed tackle Derrick Graham, safety Tysheem Johnson and running back Justin Jones on Tuesday, filling a roster spot opened when they waived running back Anthony Hankerson Monday.
