Newcastle sign Nico González from Manchester City

Newcastle United have signed Nico González from Manchester City for £52 million. The fee comprises £48 million plus £4 million in potential add-ons, according to sources.

González joins as Newcastle reshape their midfield following the departures of Bruno Guimarães to Arsenal and Sandro Tonali to Tottenham this summer. He was presented to supporters before Newcastle's Carabao Cup second-round match against West Bromwich Albion.

"I've experienced playing at St. James' Park twice with Manchester City and it was really tough," González said on Newcastle's website. "The atmosphere was amazing and so passionate. I can't wait to experience that as a home player."

Newcastle manager Matthias Jaissle said: "He brings serious quality and elite experience in a key area of the pitch. Nico is a really strong ball carrier -- somebody who can drive the team forward while staying composed under pressure." At City, González played 36 Premier League games and scored two goals.
