MLB proposes NFL-style free agency windows

MLB has pitched a plan to restructure its offseason calendar, similar to models used by the NFL and NBA. Under the proposal, free-agent signings would be confined to a several-week window in December and then reopen in early February.

The plan also includes a ban on trades during the period between the December signing window and the February restart.
