MLB proposes NFL-style free agency windows

MLB has pitched a plan to limit free agent signings to specific stretches of the offseason, mirroring approaches used by the NFL and NBA. Under the proposal, signings would be allowed for several weeks in December and then resume from early February onward.

The plan also calls for a ban on trades during the period between the December and February windows.
