Inter Miami names Kily González new head coach

Cristian 'Kily' González has been named the new Inter Miami coach, replacing Guillermo Hoyos. The Argentine coach takes over the MLS side amid a five-match winless streak with four losses and one draw across all competitions.

González will officially assume his duties once he receives the corresponding work permits. Hoyos will provisionally continue in charge of the team until the arrival of the new head coach and his coaching staff. González previously served as head coach at Argentine clubs Rosario Central, Unión (Santa Fe) and Platense.

Inter Miami sits in second place in the Eastern Conference standings with 39 points in 21 games. González and current Inter Miami captain Lionel Messi were teammates on the Argentina national team in 2005, playing together in two World Cup qualifiers against Peru and Uruguay.

Hoyos initially took over as interim manager last April after replacing Javier Mascherano, moving from his role as Inter Miami's sporting director. He began with a 6-1-1 record through eight matches, the most successful start for an Inter Miami coach through eight matches since the team debuted in MLS in 2020.
