Cardinals RB Jeremiyah Love unlikely to play rest of preseason

Cardinals rookie running back Jeremiyah Love is dealing with a high ankle sprain and is unlikely to play the rest of the preseason, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Sunday.

Cardinals coach Mike LaFleur declined Sunday to specify whether the injury was a high or low ankle sprain, saying only, "It's an ankle, so we'll keep it at that." LaFleur said Saturday that Love would miss this week and would be reevaluated next week. The Cardinals are hoping Love can be ready to play Week 1 in Los Angeles against the Chargers, sources told Schefter.

Love was hurt on the final play of Thursday night's game against the Raiders, in which he played 23 snaps, rushing 11 times for 58 yards and catching three passes for 14 yards. LaFleur said Love's confidence "went through the roof" after a strong third drive and called it "unfortunate" that he got "somewhat rolled up on" on the last play.

LaFleur also said Sunday that rookie quarterback Carson Beck is "day-to-day" as he recovers from rib soreness suffered on a 4-yard run in the first quarter of last week's Hall of Fame Game. LaFleur said the discomfort is "still just kind of there" but that the injury is not long term.
