Blue Jays place 1B Vladimir Guerrero Jr. on 7-day concussion IL
The Toronto Blue Jays placed six-time All-Star first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. on the seven-day concussion injured list Saturday. To fill the roster spot, Toronto selected outfielder Daz Cameron from Triple-A Buffalo, and designated right-hander Lazaro Estrada for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster.
Guerrero left Friday's 3-1 win over the Yankees after a collision with New York rookie shortstop George Lombard Jr. during a play at third base in the sixth inning. Lombard was attempting to leap over a sliding Guerrero when his knee and thigh struck Guerrero's head, dislodging his helmet. Guerrero got up and ran home to score the tying run but appeared dazed after crossing the plate. Charles McAdoo replaced him at first base in the seventh.
Manager John Schneider said after Friday's game that Guerrero had "a little bit of a headache," and said Saturday that Guerrero still had a headache. Guerrero is batting .263 with seven homers and 46 RBIs this season.
In other roster moves Saturday, Toronto recalled left-hander Ricky Tiedemann from Buffalo and optioned right-hander Chase Lee to Triple-A. Tiedemann went 0-1 with a 6.43 ERA in seven games, including two starts, across three minor league levels this season.
