Atlético Madrid are working to secure the loan signing of Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson, with director of football Mateu Alemany travelling to London for negotiations. Jackson, a Senegalese forward, spent last season on loan at Bayern Munich.
Aston Villa are also pursuing Jackson as they weigh a potential move for striker Ollie Watkins to Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal. Unai Emery, Aston Villa's manager, gave Jackson his debut while at Villareal and has an excellent personal relationship with him.
Jackson scored 13 goals in 48 appearances for Villareal, 30 in 81 for Chelsea, and 11 in 34 games for Bayern Munich last season. He has eight goals in 37 caps for Senegal.
Atlético's pursuit of Jackson comes as Argentine striker Julián Álvarez endures difficult form. Barcelona have shelved their attempts to sign Álvarez and are exploring other striker options, ESPN reported on Wednesday. Atlético teammate Alexander Sørloth is currently out with an injury and has not been training with the team.
