Shuckers Escape Barons Early, Fischer Leads Late Surge
The Shuckers seized early control with a bottom-of-the-first power display, Andrew Fischer launching a go-ahead homer that plated two runs and set the tone for an 8-5 win over the Barons. Fischer stayed hot throughout the night, finishing with two homers and four RBIs to pace Biloxi. The Shuckers improved to 62-65 while Birmingham fell to 57-74, and the clubs return for another round Sunday.
Fischer's two-run blast came off a fly ball to right field in the bottom of the first, allowing Payne and Adamczewski to score the game's first runs and give Biloxi the edge from the jump.
The Shuckers out-hit Birmingham 11 to 6, controlling the pace and limiting the Barons' ability to mount a comeback.
The clubs will square off again Sunday, with the Barons visiting the Shuckers in the rubber match of the series.
